We are currently studying Lysa Terkeurst’s, “The Best Yes” in our church small group. It is just what I need to be thinking through right now. There is so much going on in this season of my life. I feel the need to prioritize everything I do & to manage my time much more wisely. I feel pulled in a lot of different directions. Every day I have to say no to good things I could (should?) do because there’s no room in my life. There is not room for everything, so how do I decide what stays & what goes? THIS is what I love about this study. It is pointing me (us) toward the truth we need to navigate our crazy lives & schedules.
She encourages us (through the Word) to set our hearts to wisdom, to ask God for insight as we make choices for our lives. She tackles the unhealthy fears that we have that keep us from saying no when we really need to. We are being motivated by the wrong things:
-fear other people’s expectations of what we should be/do,
-feeling out of control of our schedule, like life is just happening to us & we are passively standing by
-feeling like we’re not doing enough
If we know & believe that that we (& your family) have a specific part to play in God’s plan, we will live it. We will make all our decisions through our Best Yes filter & it will give us the freedom to say no to things that don’t fit into what we see God doing with our family. It also gives us the freedom to say a big YES to things that fit with our family.
I don’t know about you, but I’m ready for some guilt & stress to be lifted off my life. I want to be more intentional with my life & how I spend my time & resources. These words encourage me from James:
” Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature & complete, not lacking anything. If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, & it will be given to you. But when you ask, you must believe & not doubt, because the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown & tossed by the wind. That person should not expect to receive anything from the Lord. Such a person is double-minded and unstable in all they do.” James 1:4-8
We need to ask God to lead us & believe that He will.
“For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” Ephesians 2:10
He already has good works prepared for us to do.
“Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, “This is the way; walk in it.” Isaiah 20:21
He will guide us.
I am trusting the LORD to help me make these choices. I want to own my NO’s & my YES’s & not be ashamed of making the choices I believe to be right. I have always struggled with saying no. Sometimes I have failed to say no at great personal cost to me & to those influenced by me. I want to be strong in the LORD & assured of where He has me. Unrattled by life & all it’s demands. I want to simply let my yes, be yes & my no, be no.
Will you pray this for me? I am praying, as I write this, for anyone who reads this, that God would give you the assurance of resting in His will for your life. I am praying for you to have confidence in God & the freedom to intentionally choose the direction of your life & all the little decisions in each day that make up that life.
